Tooth Be Told
Would your practice be interested in a one-on-one, learning session
pertaining to veterinary dentistry held at your facility? My New Years resolution for 2011 was
to enhance the referral relationship through personal contact. By connecting a face with a name, and through
friendship and collegiality, a professional alliance can be forged to improve
veterinary dental care in Central New York.
I presented a one hour, pictorial session on the common
and not so commonly recognized oral problems in the five central disciplines of
dentistry: Periodontics, Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, and
Restorative Dentistry to veterinarians and/or technicians at your animal
hospital. A one hour question and answer
session followed, where nagging questions about dentistry were hopefully
answered. Don't be shy. All levels of
knowledge and skill will benefit. How do
you sharpen a curette? How do you position the X-ray machine to image the
fourth premolar of a cat? How do you extract cat teeth without swearing? What
are some good home-care recommendations? How can we improve owner compliance?
What cases should be referred?
Sessions were scheduled for Friday
afternoons, 1 pm through 3 pm and the cost was FREE! Although the
idea came to me as I read advertisements pertaining to February being Animal
Dental Health Month, sessions were scheduled from January through May of
2011.
For additional interest and intrigue,
what animal is in the order Carnivora that is an obligate herbivore? I'll provide
the answer in person!
